Summerville Grill’s History:

The Summerville Grill is located at 5370 Saint Paul Boulevard in Rochester, New York–just down the street from Lake Ontario and the Genesee River. It is surrounded by quaint summer cottages in an area of Irondequoit the locals call “White City.”

The building was built in the early 1900s and was originally a boarding house that offered a temporary home to laborers working in the ship yards at the Port of Rochester.

In the fifties, the building was purchased by Fred and Nancy Barbara and was called “Barbarians Cove.” The lower level was converted to a bar and remained in business until a fire destroyed the upper levels of the building in the late 80s.

After that, the building was purchased by Jerry Lamb and was remodeled into a single story structure and named the “Summerville Grill.”

Daniel Graden and his sister Barbara LeMay purchased the building and business from Jerry Lamb in August of 2001. Since their purchase of the Summerville Grill they have added an addition and upgraded the kitchen facilities. The restaurant has seating for 84 in the main dining room and additional seating in the bar area.

Open 7 Days a Week- Year ‘Round

The Summerville Grill is open  seven days a week, including holidays. Although the area in which we’re located is considered by some to be a seasonal area, you’ll find our customers sitting at the bar or in our dinning area throughout the year. We’ve been serving a steady crowd of daily guests year in, year out.

In addition to their regular customers the restaurant enjoys a diverse cliental, including Rochester Yacht Club members, sailors, and Canadians, who travel to the Port of Rochester. The restaurant has a cozy, casual atmosphere that allows customers to relax and enjoy their dining experience. I guess there’s a reason our regulars refer to Summerville Grill as their “home-away-from-home.”
